Job Description

The Cognitive Intervention Programme (CIP) aims to provide a combination of cognitive interventions, physical exercise as well as social interactions to improve or maintain cognition, functional status, and overall well-being of persons with dementia (PWD).

This internship offers a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of PWD. You'll gain hands-on experience in therapeutic programme design and facilitation, engagement with PWD, evaluation of multimodal interventions and learn from Dementia Practitioners. These skill sets are highly valued in dementia care and practices, healthcare, and social service careers. Beyond technical skills, you'll cultivate exceptional qualities such as person-centred care, empathy, patience, and creativity — qualities that will benefits you in any professional path. You'll be part of a dedicated team working to improve quality of life of PWD through meaningful engagement.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Assist in planning and conducting physical/cognitive stimulation sessions (e.g., exercise, meal preparation, Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, reminiscence, music, art therapy).
  • Observe and document participants' responses to activities for progress tracking.
  • Collaborate with Dementia Practitioners, caregivers, therapists, and programme staff to tailor interventions.
  • Prepare creative materials and resources for therapeutic activities.
  • Support administrative tasks such as scheduling, logistics, client attendance and feedback collection.
  • Contribute to evaluation reports and share ideas for programme improvement.

Qualifications

You are:

  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree or diploma.
  • A team player with strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Detail-oriented, proactive, and eager to learn.
  • Proficient in Google Suite applications.

Learning Objectives & Outcomes:

  • To be exposed to dementia care practices and therapeutic programme delivery.
  • To be able to facilitate multimodal interventions that promote cognitive stimulation and emotional well-being.
  • To apply classroom knowledge from dementia care and practices such as person-centred care, responding to behaviour of concerns, communication strategies in the actual dementia care settings.
  • To participate in multidisciplinary teamwork with Dementia Practitioners, caregivers, therapists, and programme staff.
  • To learn how to adapt/modify interventions to meet diverse cognitive, physical and emotional needs.
  • To gain knowledge in dementia care, communication strategies, managing behaviour of concerns, understanding group setting and their dynamics and person-centered care approaches.
