Job Description

Singapore Red Cross is providing pre-hospital emergency care and rendering first aid as part of its TransportAid Emergency Ambulance service. This enhances our present suite of services such as Community FirstAid, FoodAid, ElderAid, Blood Donor Recruitment Programme, Civil Emergency Response and International Disaster Relief. Principal Accountabilities

Operations

  • Provide timely response and safe conveyance of TransportAid clients using Emergency Ambulances and other vehicles of the Singapore Red Cross
  • Assess patients, provide emergency treatment and make critical decisions when the need arises
  • Monitor and administer medication, pain relief and intravenous infusions as needed, aligned to the Society’s protocols
  • Administer appropriate first aid and life saving intervention as required and in accordance with the Society’s standard operating procedures
  • Competent in using specialist equipment such as ventilators and defibrillators and able to read information such as ECG
  • Provide first aid and medical treatment to casualties during Community First Aid assignments
  • Be part of the crew to provide Emergency Ambulance support during Civil Emergency activation
  • Maintain proper records of the patients and services provided
  • Provide hospital staff with critical information eg: condition and treatment
  • Keep stock of the inventory and other equipment and maintain them
  • Assist Ambulance Driver in the upkeep and maintenance of the vehicle
  • Ensure proper Infection Control procedures
  • Work on rotating shifts

Qualifications

  • Recognised Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Nursing
  • Recognised or equivalent Level 3 Paramedic Certification
  • For Staff Nurses, registration with the Singapore Nursing Board as a registered nurse
  • Higher Nitec in Paramedic and Emergency Care from ITE
  • Diploma in Nursing from Nanyang Polytechnic
  • Diploma in Health Sciences (Nursing) from Ngee Ann Polytechnic
  • Degree in Nursing from NUS, SIT or recognised foreign University

Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience as a Staff Nurse in the Emergency Department or ICU and / or Paramedic is preferred but not a requisite
  • Those with less than 1 year experience or have just finished school, with the relevant qualifications are encouraged to apply

Additional skills and knowledge

  • Class 3 Driving Licence is preferred but not a requisite
  • Staff Nurse with ACLS or LSCN certification will have an added advantage
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Independent, and a good team player
  • Able to converse in English and an added advantage, another local language or dialect (In order to liaise with local language language or dialect speaking associates)
  • Calm under pressure
  • Enjoy working with volunteers
  • Physical work required.
