Schenker (Asia Pacific) Pte Ltd – IT Contract Logistics Plan Team Intern

NGW II is Schenker’s new warehouse management system (WMS) that is being rolled out to countries in Asia Pacific. The NGW II Plan Team is responsible for capacity and demand management, and to provide presales support to the organization. As part of this team, the intern will provide presales support to market Schenker’s WMS to internal and external customers. Activities include requirements gathering, system solutioning, solution prototype development and solution presentation. The role will also involve research and analysis of emerging technologies and technical innovations such as warehouse automation to identify opportunities to further enhance the WMS.

Specific Accountabilities:

1. Presales support
2. Requirements gathering
3. Systems solutioning and prototype development to showcase how WMS can meet customer requirements
4. Present solution to customers/stakeholders
5. Document solution to support business development

Project 1: Solve the demand and capacity management process for APAC IT

Background: There are over 200 IT CL personnel located across 11 countries in Asia Pacific. To better manage our resources, we need visibility of the planned and actual work done, and what work is being done. With this visibility, we hope to better manage our resources and allocate them to projects that are more important

Problem Statement: The collection of the demand data is done manually via Excel today. Employees in sub-teams fill up a template on a monthly basis as they plan their work for the next 3 months. It is a time-consuming process and is prone to inaccuracies and timeliness issues (people not submitting on time). It is also time-consuming to compile and analyse the data

Objective: Develop a solution that will resolve the issue with a target to reduce the time-spent on the process by at least 30%

Project 2: NGW II Function in an interactive way

Background: NGW II is the strategy WMS for countries in Asia Pacific. Not all countries resources have the skillset and knowledge to sell and solution new businesses on NGW II. We need to have a platform to store all NGW II materials for countries to self-help themselves on queries they have

Problem Statement: Currently, the function document is not archive in a common area and document is very lengthy in word (not user-friendly). When country resource has any query on the NGW II function, they will send an email to the solution center. Sometimes different countries will enquire on the same function. Time is wasted as solution lead needs to answer the same question over and over. There is also no media like video or animation to show how the NGW II functions in a warehouse to provide a better visual aid for people who do not know the product.

Objective: Develop a solution that will present NGW II function in an interactive way for countries to better understand NGW II and able to self-search on any query
