You will be part of our client's “Trainee Trader Program” as a trainee trader to support our raw sugar and bulk products business. During the program, you will gain experience in shipping operations, trade finance, derivatives risk management and bulk products trading. Once Covid-19 is under control, you may get the opportunity to spending time in overseas offices, linking in with the business in Asia and Global.

In the first 18-24 months of the role, the trainee trader will support the front desk while developing the necessary skills and experiences in shipping operations, analysis and trade finance.

In the long run, the trader shall grow into a well-rounded front desk role and be able to support the growth of commercial trading activities in the bulk sugar and food products desk while building new relationships with existing or potential partners in Asia.

Job Description

THE ROLE

Reporting to: Director, Head of Asia

  • Identify and develop commercial opportunities on bulk sugar and food products in new regional downstream markets, including ad-hoc analysis tasks by developing strong long-term relationships with our business contacts to retrieve on-the-ground information.
  • Communicating internally with overseas and head office as well as externally with clients to ensure smooth service delivery and execution of post trade workflow.
  • To input all new physical business confirmation details into system and prepare trade contracts and addendums accordingly.
  • To reconcile, manage client futures market pricing orders recap confirmations within the system and confirm final prices to clients.
  • To provide day-to-day cover to main shipping operator in carrying out post trade execution activities such as preparation of shipping documentation, creation of shipment system entries, uploading of documents to payment collections and related trade financing documentation work.
  • To assist trading team in preparation of customer due diligence material and credit papers for assessing counterparty trading risk.
  • From time to time the candidate may be asked to attend training courses which are identified as being necessary for the performance of the role.
  • Changes in the business may occasionally require alterations in this job description and these will be agreed with the post holder as appropriate.

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelors’ degree in business, international trade, maritime studies, economics, supply chain or finance
Experience in international import/export trade and shipping terms would be useful but not essential
Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
Keen interest to develop & further career in a niche area in agricultural commodities and food products
Fast learner and be able to work under pressure
Excellent personality with strong initiative, can-do attitude and able to act with integrity when dealing with confidential matters
Team player with strong work ethics and excellent communication skills
Excellent written and verbal proficiency in English and at least one other Asian language
