We’re on the lookout for a curious and creative Product Design Intern to join us in our goal to make The Straits Times’ digital experiences clear, accessible, and engaging for readers.
You’ll work alongside product designers, engineers, and editors to improve how people read and interact with our stories online. You’ll learn how design decisions shape user journeys and how research and testing guide what we build.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll contribute ideas, create prototypes, and see your work make a real impact.
Who You Are:
- You’re studying design, human–computer interaction, or a related field.
- You’re familiar with tools like Figma and adobe illustrator
- You care about solving real problems for users and explaining your design choices clearly.
- You have a portfolio that shows your design process, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
- You’re comfortable working collaboratively and giving or receiving feedback.
- You’re curious about how design, technology, AI, and journalism come together.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and improve features for The Straits Times’ web and mobile products.
- Create wireframes, prototypes, and visual mockups to support design and stakeholder discussions.
- Contribute to our design system to keep our interfaces consistent and accessible.
- Propose user research and testing sessions, then share insights with the team.
- Work with product managers and developers to bring designs into production.
- Share your ideas during design critiques and team discussions — we love fresh perspectives!
Requirements:
- Interest in news or digital media
- Experience with design systems or accessibility design.
- Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS or prototyping tools is a plus.
- Experience working in a leading newsroom on real digital products.
-Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Figma
-Familiar with concepts of design thinking, prototyping, user testing, user research
Interns willl stand to gain mentorship from designers and product teams, with a chance to build a portfolio that shows how you’ve solved real user problems.
