Project outline:
TUV SUD is embarking on a multi-year project as a delivery partner for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. This is a follow-on project to existing work TÜV SÜD is completing in developing international standards for the design and performance of sustainable, non-sewered sanitation systems, both household scale and industrial/commercial scale. These advanced systems represent a change in the sanitation value chain by driving towards resource recovery and the reality of a water scarce world where using potable water for sanitation makes no sense.
The key outcomes of the project are the establishment of testing and inspection capabilities for advanced sanitation technologies, examples of the work in the field can be found searching for the keywords: ISO Project Committee 305, Omni-Processor, Reinvent the Toilet, Waste-to-Value, Sanitation Technology Platform.
During the industrial attachment the participant will be exposed to and contribute in areas such as: technology evaluation, establishing testing protocols, advanced work in the area of human and environmental health parameters & thresholds, global guidelines and national regulatory frameworks, occupational and treatment equipment design and qualification, advanced waste treatment processes.
The student will gain breadth and depth in sanitation sector with exposure to leading academics, technology developers and other stakeholders working in the field with whom TÜV SÜD is partnering in the execution of the projects.
