Job Description

A Healthcare Assistant/Basic Care Assistant/ Nursing Aide is responsible for attending to patients' needs in their activities of daily living and performing basic patient care procedures under the direction of trained nurses according to established protocols, and standards of patient care and practices. He/She attends relevant nursing support care training to ensure that her/his knowledge and skills remain up-to-date to provide patients with quality patient care.

He/She operates in a wide variety of settings such as acute care, primary care, community hospitals, integrated care and long-term care facilities.

He/She should be caring, energetic, in a good state of well-being and emotionally-resilient, proactive, responsible and accountable.

  • Support patient care
    • Assist in basic physiological monitoring of patients
    • Assist trained nurses in medical emergency or crisis situations
    • Attend to patients' needs in their activities of daily living
    • Perform planned nursing interventions
  • Support unit function
    • Participate in quality improvement audits and activities
    • Transfer patients with stable conditions for clinical appointments, ward transfers or hospital transfers
    • Assist healthcare professionals in clinical consultations
