Job Description

About the Role

This is a research and learning-focused internship for individuals interested in estate planning, succession, private wealth, and the broader intersection of law, business, and family circumstances. Depending on your interests, the programme schedule, and the availability of suitable opportunities, you will be exposed to a range of educational and professional learning experiences in this space.

The Learning Experience

You will learn about the fundamental concepts and processes surrounding wills and succession planning, common estate planning considerations, family and beneficiary considerations, and probate and estate administration. This includes understanding the practical role of different professionals involved in the estate planning ecosystem, as well as common issues that can arise when succession planning is delayed or incomplete. The focus throughout is on education, research, and professional exposure.

Where suitable, selected interns may also have the opportunity to observe how estate planning information and circumstances are discussed and documented, how relevant client information is gathered and organised, and the practical workflow involved in preparing and coordinating estate planning documentation. This includes observing how professionals from different disciplines work together within the broader estate planning ecosystem. Any shadowing involving sensitive or confidential information will be subject to appropriate confidentiality requirements, supervision, and client consent where applicable.

You may also be introduced to concepts surrounding business succession and continuity, including the succession challenges faced by privately held businesses, ownership and shareholding considerations, business continuity planning, family business considerations, and how personal succession planning relates to business ownership and corporate structures. This part of the programme is especially relevant if you're interested in corporate advisory, private wealth, family businesses, or long-term business planning.

Where opportunities are available, you may participate in curated learning sessions with industry professionals such as corporate lawyers, estate and succession professionals, private wealth practitioners, and other relevant specialists, covering topics like business succession, corporate structures, and ownership transitions. Selected interns may also be considered for external professional exposure or attachments with affiliate or partner organisations such as law firms, corporate and commercial practices, or private wealth-related businesses, subject to availability and suitability. These opportunities are intended to help you build a broader understanding of the professional ecosystem and how different disciplines interact when dealing with estate, succession, and business continuity matters.

Internship Responsibilities

Your day-to-day work will involve researching estate planning, succession, and related legal and business topics for educational and internal knowledge purposes, and assisting with the preparation of educational, research, and internal knowledge materials. You will support the development of learning programmes and knowledge resources, and conduct research on business succession and ownership-related topics. You'll also attend selected learning sessions, briefings, and professional discussions, and assist with administrative and operational processes relating to the preparation and coordination of documentation. More broadly, you will support internal projects relevant to the company's work and your own professional development, while maintaining strict confidentiality when handling or being exposed to sensitive information, and taking on other responsibilities and projects relevant to the internship programme as they arise.

What We're Looking For

You should be curious about the intersection between law and real-world business and personal circumstances, and have good research, communication, and organisational skills. We're looking for someone proactive, responsible, and willing to learn, who can maintain professionalism and confidentiality. No prior experience in estate planning is required. A genuine interest in learning, intellectual curiosity, and a willingness to explore unfamiliar areas are highly valued.

What You'll Gain

Depending on your participation and the opportunities available, this internship can give you foundational knowledge of estate planning and succession, along with exposure to practical issues surrounding wills and succession planning. You'll build a broader understanding of how law, business, wealth, and family circumstances intersect, and gain exposure to business succession and continuity considerations. You'll have opportunities to learn from professionals across different disciplines, with the possibility of professional shadowing and external learning opportunities, and you'll come away with stronger research, communication, and professional skills. This experience is valuable exposure for anyone considering a career in law, private wealth, family business, corporate advisory, succession planning, or related professional fields.
