SPH Media Limited – Designer Intern – ICON Magazine

We are looking for a creative, detail-oriented Designer Intern to support our visual and editorial team. This role is ideal for a design student or emerging creative who is passionate about visual storytelling, typography, and creating compelling layouts across both digital and print platforms. The internship offers hands-on experience working in a professional publishing environment, contributing to real projects and gaining exposure to brand, lifestyle, and culture-related content.

Key Responsibilities

1. Visual Design & Layout

Support the design team in creating layouts for print and digital articles.

Assist in designing features, decks,and visual elements that align with the brand’s aesthetic.

Prepare and adapt visuals for multiple formats including magazine print, social media, eDMs, and web articles.

2. Creative Asset Production

Create, resize, and optimise images, graphics, and visual assets.

Support the development of mood boards, mockups, and design concepts for upcoming issues or campaigns.

3. Collaboration with Editorial & Photo Teams

Work closely with writers, editors, and photographers to ensure cohesive storytelling.

Participate in editorial meetings, contributing visual ideas and supporting feature planning.

4. Digital & Social Media Support

Support the design of graphics for social platforms (Instagram, Facebook).

Help adapt magazine content into visually engaging digital formats.

Qualifications & Skills Required:

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator). Strong sense of layout, typography, colour theory, and visual hierarchy.

Ability to work within a brand’s visual style while contributing fresh ideas. 

Strong organisational skills and careful attention to detail. Ability to multitask, manage deadlines, and work independently or as part of a team.

Familiarity with digital design tools and trends; motion graphics experience (Premiere, After Effects) is a plus. A portfolio (student work accepted) showcasing an eye for design and creative thinking.
