Company Profile

The A*STAR Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (A*STAR SIMTech) develops high-value manufacturing technology and human capital to enhance the competitiveness of Singapore’s manufacturing industry. It collaborates with various multinational and local companies in the precision engineering, medtech, aerospace, automotive, marine, oil & gas, electronics, semiconductor, logistics, and other sectors.

Metal & Ceramic Forming (MCF) Group focuses on enabling the manufacturing of near net shape products by using metals, ceramics and composites, as well as multi-material approaches, employing various technologies and equipment, usually as hybrid processes. Industry partners can draw on the expertise within MCF to develop new components or improve existing products by using state-of-the-art material processing technologies and simulation techniques.

Job Description

The selected candidate will be attached to the Incremental Metal Sheet Forming Section under the MCF Group. The role will involve supporting ongoing R&D activities across multiple projects, including incremental sheet metal forming, auxetic honeycomb core manufacturing, and thermomechanical processing of metal alloys (e.g., casting, rolling, and heat‑treatment processes).

The intern will assist with materials characterization, including sample cutting, mounting, polishing, microstructure etching, and optical microscopy. They will also support mechanical testing activities such as hardness and tensile testing.

In addition, the intern will provide hands‑on support to scientists and engineers in experimental R&D work, which may include incremental forming, metal stamping or forming, hot forging, and hot rolling of bulk metal alloys. The scope may further involve 2D/3D CAD drafting and Python programming for data analysis or automation tasks.
