Company Profile

52% of the world can’t access essential healthcare: reach52 is a business that does something about it. Join us.

How does it work?  reach52 has built an app that works offline, operating in rural areas to equip community health workers and independent people to form a network of field agents. They collect data on health needs, which is used to design and implement targeted awareness and screening campaigns, and enable supply of affordable products to rural pharmacies and stores. This isn’t an easy task, but we’re doing it – this isn’t all talk! Six countries, 12,500 agents trained and 60 core staff.

Why work with us? We are an impact-focused tech start-up, in a unique space, with a new value proposition to build a socially minded business models for half the planet. You get to be creative, move fast, own truly important things, grow, and help people. We’re not a charity either, we are redesigning how affordable healthcare is delivered through truly innovative business and service delivery models. We’ve raised VC money, are revenue generating and are focusing on our scale up.

We already work with over half of the world’s largest pharmaceutical companies and have footholds in six markets, including India and Indonesia (with close to 20% of the world population there – with more growth and partnerships planned), and Philippines, Cambodia, Kenya and South Africa too!

We’re just getting started though, so get onboard: do something that matters.

reach52 is seeking a Research Intern to support our mission to improve access to primary care for disconnected rural communities in LMICs. You will work closely with the Singapore-based team, as well as individual Country Leads, to uncover and share insights from reach52’s vast repository of proprietary data, collected through our face-to-face engagement with 1.5 million rural individuals across countries in Asia and Africa. This is a terrific opportunity for graduate students interested in increasing their authorship credits, through the development of research-focused academic journal articles and/or industry whitepapers.

You should have strong background in quantitative research methods, biostatistics, data analyses, and manuscript preparation. Ability to competently use data analysis tools such as STATA, R, SAS, Python and/or SPSS is desired.

What you’ll do

The core role scope and responsibilities of the role will be:

  • Coordinate with various reach52 teams to formulate relevant research questions;
  • Examine existing reach52 data to design retrospective studies;
  • Perform analyses of these data using correct statistical tests;
  • Document results in various formats, including preparation of journal manuscripts, case studies, and whitepapers;
  • Identify opportunities for submission and publishing, including open calls;
  • Promote knowledge dissemination, through outreach to relevant organizations and attendance at conferences;
  • Support development of Monitoring and Evaluation frameworks in upcoming projects, to maximize research and publishing potential.

Who you are (probably!)

We’re reasonably sure you should have a profile like this, but we can flex sometimes:

  • Current graduate-level student completing a Master’s or PhD in health sciences or similar discipline;
  • Having a solid background in research methods, including an understanding of how to design and execute a retrospective study;
  • Familiarity using quantitative data analyses tools;
  • Previous experience drafting and formatting academic manuscripts, including existing publishing credits in academic journals or collections;

  • High autonomy, entrepreneurial mindset. Ability to see the big picture and support on achieving the details;
  • A passion for healthcare access, innovation, and social impact – 52% of the world can’t access healthcare, our goal is to solve this;
  • An agile, hardworking and growth mindset, able to thrive in a fast-paced environment – grow, pivot, grow…;
  • Robust analytical skills and an ability to process complex information to define clear direction and strategy – we love data-driven impact models;
  • Love dynamism and an ever-changing set of challenges and projects to work on – we have a lot going on, but it’s working!
