BetaLife is an early-stage start up developing stem cell therapy for diabetes. The company has multiple R&D programmes to accelerate its path to clinic, as well as a number of commercial pipelines based on its stem cell platform. An opportunity is available in the company for an intern to play an active role as part of an entrepreneurial team. The team combines extensive experience in stem cells and diabetes biology to develop a cell therapy pipeline and products with the potential to provide a better life for diabetes patients. The intern will have be entrusted with a wide range of responsibilities covering both scientific and operational activities, have the opportunity to contribute to a diverse range of tasks, and have close encounter behind-the-scenes in a fast-paced start up environment.

Job Description

R&D

  • Stem cell reprogramming, culture, and banking
  • Directed differentiation of stem cells into pancreatic cells
  • Cellular, molecular, biochemical assays and data analysis
  • Ability to execute experiments effectively and work well within a team to achieve R&D milestones
  • Maintain accurate and tidy records of experimental data and samples
  • Support other team members in experimental requirements
  • Prepare and present research data and written reports routinely/as required
  • Conduct literature/market research on exciting and new areas of innovation

 Operations

  • General lab and administrative duties to ensure smooth operations
  • Maintenance and support for cleanroom operations
  • Sourcing, procurement or manage equipment maintenance
  • Liaising with external vendors
  • Drafting and management of protocols, maintain appropriate documentation, records and inventories
  • Compliance with cGMP (when required) and GLP practices

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • Currently studying or have recently graduated from a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Science and Life Science disciplines or equivalent from a reputable university
  • Full time/Part time commitment to entire internship period
  • Prior research and laboratory experience is a bonus
  • Motivated and possess a can-do attitude
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to pay attention to detail
