Role of the WWF Governance Practice
The Governance Practice seeks to empower civil society and strengthen the capacity of public as well as corporate institutions to support the environmental and sustainable development action at local, national and global levels. This work includes the development of innovative tools and processes, networking of individuals and organizations, policy development and advocacy, and actions on the ground that promotes social equity and strengthens civic space. The key pillars of work are focused on: (1) Inclusive Conservation; (2) Shining a Light on Environmental Corruption, and: (3) Sustainable Development Action.
Purpose of the job
The purpose of the Research and Communications Intern is to assist the Governance Practice with gathering relevant data and information and creating and publishing content that supports the Governance Practice’s internal and public communication of its initiatives in particular: (1) global (country by country) assessment and mapping of the level of support or lack thereof for civil society participation in environmental and sustainable development decision-making, and; (2) progress or lack thereof, as well as possible partnerships and support tools (i.e. mapping), on the matter of land, territory, and resource access rights of indigenous peoples and local communities.
Responsibilities and Duties
The position will include the following responsibilities and duties:
Provide support to surveys and implementation of other consultation tools regarding initiatives (1) and (2) above
Search for information and data, including relevant news reports and stories, through Google and other database searches
Help put together the information and data gathered into impactful and audience friendly presentations
Help create and publish social media content using information and data gathered
Liaise with Governance Core Team, Leadership Team, and Focal Points on research and communication work as needed.
Assist as needed with events and campaigns
Assist in the layout of team documents and graphics on an as-needed basis
Minimum Requirements
Pursuing a degree in mass communication, journalism, public relations, marketing or related field with a strong interest in conservation.
Able to work both independently and in a team setting.
Excellent research, writing, organizational and oral communications skill.
Proficient in using Google docs, MS Word, Excel and Powerpoint
Ability to work under tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in tracking information from databases and developing graphics and presentations, as well as social media content, either for academic or professional purpose.
Experience using WordPress
Knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Photoshop and/or Illustrator.
Working Relationships
This position reports to the WWF Governance Practice Leader and for certain activities to the Core Team or Leadership Team member assigned to lead the particular activity. It is expected that productive working relationships are maintained with other team members of the Governance Practice.
