Company Profile

Sqkii is known for our #HuntTheMouse and #HuntFromHome campaigns that give away cold, hard cash to players. In the good old pre-COVID days, our hunts and custom games got Singaporeans squatting in random spots and running after golden eggs. For now, we’re bringing players on virtual adventures through their mobile screens — they’re still super cool, just ask the mouse.

We paid a virtual visit to the player community in Malaysia at the start of 2021 with #HuntFromHome — Around The World, and oh boy do we have big plans ahead for SEA and beyond. Big plans = bigger team, so we’re on the hunt (ha) for someone who wants to hop onto this thrilling ride.

Job Description

As our Game Design Intern, you’ll work your magic behind the scenes to bring our current and future games to wild new heights. Fair warning — we’re open to ideas from literally anyone in the team, so you can expect some pretty absurd plans amidst legit game thingamajigs. If you love games, understand games, and can’t wait to create some of the most exciting ones to date, we (and our Game Design team) are 200% ready to meet you.

P.S. After you’ve applied, we’ll send over some secret tasks for you to try your hand at before we arrange for a virtual chat!

What you’ll be doing:

  • Analysing the best games in the industry with comprehensive research methodology and reporting findings to the team
  • Conceptualising unique and engaging game concepts that can achieve stakeholders’ objectives without compromising on fun
  • Developing effective game design strategies to attract a hyper casual audience, by applying gamer psychology and human-centered design principles
  • Performing extensive playtesting at all stages of planning in order to fine-tune game mechanics, balance game economies and observe player behaviours
  • Working with developers, copywriters, UI/UX designers and other stakeholders to produce high quality games

What you’ll need:

  • Strong understanding of game mechanics, gameplay loops and game economy
  • The ability to translate this knowledge into fun and engaging games
  • Strong understanding of gamer psychology, motivations, and/or behavioural science.
  • The ability to translate this knowledge into effective monetisation methodology
  • Knowledge of industry-standard best-practices to research and analyse games.
  • The ability to synthesise said research into game design insights
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in user experience design would be a plus
