Project Description
The internship will be involved in the development and enhancement of an automated optical test system. The system will read out signal data by controlling a stepper motor and multiple light sources. An initial prototype is available and requires further improvement through the integration of additional light sources and other components.
The collected data will then be prepared and structured for use in a machine learning model. While no prior knowledge of machine learning is required, the intern will gain hands-on exposure to how such models can be applied to optical distance sensors.
Key Responsibilities
Enhance an existing optical test system by adding and configuring additional light sources.
Interface with hardware components such as stepper motors and optical sensors.
Collect and process optical measurement data for further analysis.
Prepare data sets in a suitable format for machine learning model training.
Collaborate with the R+D Technology and Innovation team to ensure system reliability and data accuracy.
Skills & Requirements
Diploma in Software Engineering or Electrical / Electronic Engineering
Programming proficiency in Python.
Basic knowledge and hands-on experience with Arduino (or similar microcontrollers).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Interest in hardware-software integration and data-driven applications.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the internship, the student will:
Understand the working principle of optical distance measurement sensors.
Gain exposure to machine learning concepts (including basics of deep learning) as applied to sensor technology.
Acquire hands-on experience in designing and developing an optical test system.
Learn how to prepare and structure data for use in machine learning models.
