Internship - Cyber Defence & Resilience (Apr 2026 - Mar 2027)
This internship is rotating between the Security Operations Center (SOC) and Vulnerability Management, focusing not just on defensive procedures but will also delivering on initiatives that will enhance our team's operational capabilities.
1. SOC and Vulnerability Dashboard Development: Design and build interactive, real-time security dashboards (utilizing tools like Splunk, PowerBI, or internal visualization frameworks) that synthesize raw security logs and vulnerability scan data into actionable intelligence for analysts and leadership.
2. Security Operations Reporting Automation: Write and maintain Python or PowerShell scripts to automate repetitive security tasks, such as the generation of the daily SOC handoff report, extracting compliance metrics, or integrating vulnerability data with the asset owner's ticketing system.
3. Threat Visualization Tool Creation: Develop a web-based visualization tool (using HTML/JS/D3.js or similar) that maps normalized security event data onto a geographical display to effectively show real-time attack sources, blocked attempts, and macro-level threat trends to executive management.
4. Vulnerability Management Lifecycle Support: Actively participate in the post-analysis of security scan reports (e.g., Nessus, Qualys), validate scan findings, and directly assist asset owners in prioritizing and tracking the timely closure of identified critical system vulnerabilities based on risk scoring (CVSS).
5. Tier 1 Security Alert Triage and Incident Support: Engage in the real-time monitoring and initial triage of security alerts from SIEM platforms, learning to differentiate between false positives and genuine incidents, and contributing to the thorough documentation of minor incident response steps for review.
Qualifications
1. Programming & Scripting Proficiency: Demonstrated intermediate proficiency in a scripting language like Python or PowerShell, coupled with foundational knowledge of web technologies (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) to effectively develop automation scripts and data visualization projects.
2. Foundational Technical Knowledge & SOC Awareness: Must possess a sound working knowledge of core networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls) and be familiar with the operations of a Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) tool and common cyber-attack methodologies.
3. Analytical Drive and Proactive Problem-Solving: Proven ability to analyze complex security log data and vulnerability reports to deduce the root cause of an issue, exhibiting a self-driven eagerness to rapidly absorb new defensive technologies and security frameworks.
