About the role
Join our Engineering team and help keep mission-critical systems fast, reliable, and well-documented. Under close supervision, you’ll assist with routine checks, performance analysis, backup/restore drills, and small automation tasks—starting in staging/pre-prod before touching production.
We are looking for interns to join our team in Singapore!
Internship period: At least 3 months, preferably able to start by December 2025
Type: Full time preferred, or at least 4 days commitment
What you’ll do
- Run daily health checks (backups, storage, sessions, alerts); record anomalies and escalate per SOP.
- Assist with SQL performance work: collect slow queries & execution plans, document index/statistics findings, validate fixes in test.
- Help maintain HA/DR runbooks (failover/recovery steps, drills, post-mortems).
- Shadow incident handling and produce concise RCA and learning notes.
- Update the internal knowledge base (how-tos, scripts, best practices).
- (Nice to have) Build small automation tools in PowerShell/Python to gather logs, export metrics, or generate reports.
Tech you’ll touch
- Databases: SQL Server (primary), MySQL (basic exposure), Data warehouse construction
- Concepts: execution plans, indexing & statistics, locking/blocking/deadlocks
- Ops: backup/restore drills, DBCC basics, monitoring & alerting, permissions & audit
- Platforms: Windows Server (incl. IIS basics), Linux; Nginx/Apache (awareness)
- Tools: Performance Dashboard, SQL Profiler, internal monitoring/log platforms
Must-haves
- Pursuing/holding a CS/IT/related degree; available ≥3 months, 5 days/week.
- Solid DB fundamentals (relational modeling, transactions & isolation levels, indexing basics).
- Comfortable writing SQL (joins, aggregates) and reading simple execution plans.
- Practical experience in database architecture design and optimization, data warehouse layering.
- Practical experience with distributed MPP databases.
- One scripting language (PowerShell/Python/Bash) for basic tooling.
- Meticulous, calm under pressure, strong sense of ownership and clear communication.
Nice-to-haves
Hands-on exposure to SQL Server/MySQL backup/restore, monitoring, or a course project.
Basic Windows/Linux administration; familiarity with Git/CI/CD/containers is a plus.
Passion for mobile/video games is a plus!
