Company Profile

GreenPins is a non-profit startup funded by the  SG Eco Fund, and aims to build a mobile/search engine-integrated web application for Green F&B businesses in Singapore. Our organisation is founded by students from Yale-NUS College and the National University of Singapore.

What is the idea about?

Briefly, as Singapore moves towards a digital economy and awareness on the need for sustainable consumption rises, we anticipate consumers to demand information that would enable them to consume sustainably. Our project aims to develop a web-based application that would enable users to locate F&B businesses around one’s location and promote sustainable consumption. Businesses that promote sustainable consumption might give discounts for patrons who bring their own takeaway containers, source for ingredients from local farms, offer more vegetarian/vegan options on their catalog, or may be certified as a green business by other environmental organisations in Singapore. This application will have a search and filter function for customers to exclusively find sustainable businesses based on their preferences. Users can quickly and easily learn and decide to patronise these businesses by accessing the information on these businesses. These information will be provided from both the businesses who are interested in joining the application, and the users who have patronised these businesses.

Our Vision

There is a rising awareness for sustainable consumption. We are confident that this application can match consumers who are yearning for sustainable F&B choices with F&B businesses who have had the courage and initiative to integrate sustainability in their operations. At the same time, we want to help F&B businesses to remain profitable while operating in an environmentally-friendly manner.

Achievements

  • We have conducted a preliminary survey from both potential users and businesses which solidified our conviction that this concept will work.
  • We were funded by the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment of Singapore—specifically the SG Eco Fund—based on our idea and the results of the preliminary survey.
