About FutureLearner
FutureLearner is an AI-powered education startup based in Singapore, building tools that help primary school students learn language skills through intelligent oral practice, voice cloning, and adaptive lesson delivery. We work with Singapore MOE-aligned content and partner with established school publishers to bring AI into the classroom in a way that is practical, not disruptive.
We are a small, fast-moving team. You will be working directly on a live product that real students and teachers use.
The Role
We are looking for 1 to 2 Software Development Interns to join us for a 3-month paid internship. You will work closely with our Tech Lead, contributing to the build of our Tamil Oral Practice Module - a feature that allows primary school students to record oral responses, get AI-powered feedback, and practice mother-tongue language skills outside the classroom.
This is a hands-on engineering role. You will write real code, integrate real APIs, and see your work used by real students.
What You Will Build
You will work on real features that go directly into a live product used by students and teachers. The work spans frontend development, API integration, and AI-powered language features - building the kind of tools that make learning more interactive and accessible for students in Singapore primary schools. You will contribute to multiple layers of the stack, from user-facing interfaces to the backend services that power them. Specifics will be shared with shortlisted candidates.
What You Will Learn
You will get hands-on exposure to working with real AI speech APIs in a production environment, modern frontend frameworks at the latest versions, and multilingual UI development with accessibility in mind. Beyond the technical side, you will see firsthand how a Singapore EdTech startup operates - from product decisions to school partnerships - and learn what it takes to design and ship AI-powered features under the guidance of an experienced Tech Lead.
Who We Are Looking For
We are looking for someone currently studying Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field - polytechnic diploma or university undergraduate and postgraduate are both welcome. You should be comfortable reading and writing JavaScript or TypeScript independently, with some exposure to React being a plus. We value curiosity over credentials: if you are genuinely interested in AI, speech technology, or EdTech, we want to hear from you. This role requires a 3-month commitment of up to 40 hours per week. While fully remote, you are expected to align daily with the team on task direction and submit a short daily progress update.
Nice to Have
- Familiarity with Next.js or any modern React framework
- Experience with REST API integration
- Interest in Tamil language or Indian language education (not required)
- Prior internship or project experience
