Testimonial from previous teaching intern:
I am really thankful to Mr Toh for granting me the opportunity to serve my internship at ETG. It allowed me to have a first-hand experience in teaching economics to Junior College students.
Below are the highlights I have learnt during the course of my internship:
1. Appreciating the role of an educator
Future interns are expected to research for examples, and create analogies before lesson commences. This will not only help on the teaching intern' classroom delivery, it will also help students to understand more effectively. Also, future interns are tasked to grade students' assignments (essay and short answered questions). With more experience, future interns will be able to give meaningful comments with regards to how the students can improve on their answers.
2. Creating concise learning materials
Below are my advice for the future interns:
1. Work independently
Most of the administrative and teaching tasks handed by Mr Toh have to be completed by the intern individually. However, do seek advice from the superiors whenever in doubt.
2. Always on standby for ad-hoc tasks
Unlike other internship opportunities (i.e. which are most probably a 9am to 6pm desk job), ETG internship has flexible working hours. However, be prepared that there will be instances where you have to work for long hours due to intensive revision programs conducted by Mr Toh.
3. Seeking advice from Mr Toh, and feedback from students
Afterall, the interest in being a teaching intern originates from the curiosity in the expectations of being a teacher. As such, it is important to constantly seek for feedback and advice on how to deliver the lesson effectively and interestingly. By seeking advice and feedback, you will better craft your teaching style. This will be a good first step towards the path of being an educator.
