About CognaLearn and InteDashboard

CognaLearn aims to transform the delivery of education by replacing lectures with patent-pending Team-Based Learning (“TBL”) methods and technology developed at Duke-NUS Medical School.

Our flagship product, InteDashboard, is the world’s leading team-based learning software used by over 40 institutes across five continents to manage and enhance team-based learning classes.

Since spinning out of Duke-NUS in 2015, CognaLearn has generated over S$2 million in revenue and attracted over S$1 million of investment.

Our vision is to improve outcomes for one million learners by year 2025. We invite those who share our values (Passion, Learning, Innovative Solutions, Collaboration, Versatility and Integrity) and mission to join our expanding team.

Why we need you!

The InteDashboard team strives to provide as much value as we can to educators who are trying to improve their course delivery at universities and schools by using a pedagogy called team-based learning. Apart from providing educators with a software that automates grading and provides real time feedback, we try to educate teachers and professors using team-based learning on best practices of team-based learning through our blog (http://blog.intedashboard.com/). Some of our past blog posts have included topics like “Implementing Team-Based Learning in an online environment”, “A Definitive Guide to Peer Evaluation in Team-Based Learning”, “An Overview of the TBL Process”.

Secondly, we are soon launching a new version of InteDashboard that has a completely new user interface. In light of that, the team will be developing a fresh set of user guides for our help center (https://intercom.help/InteDashboard) that will help our users become familiar with our new product. This will involve writing out step by step instructions for them on how to accomplish certain tasks and potentially creating video tutorials that teach them how to set up a course on InteDashboard.

Job Description

Your Day to Day at CognaLearn

While we like our interns to define their own job scope during the interview process, here are a few key responsibilities we have in mind for you:

  • Writing content for the InteDashboard Blog.
  • Writing guest posts for other blogs about Team-Based Learning or Active Learning.
  • Tracking marketing metrics and iterating on our content strategy with the goal of producing content that is more engaging, relevant and leads to more conversions.
  • Writing user guides for the new version of InteDashboard to help InteDashboard users learn how to use the new version of our product.

Expectations we have from you

We are all for learning on the job, but there are a few key skills we expect you to already have.

Soft Skills:

  • Attention to detail: As someone who will be consistently writing content that is read by educators across the world, we care about the content being clean and without grammar errors, spelling issues, spacing issues, etc.
  • Communication skills: You will be spending half your time communicating in writing, and the other half communicating with members of the InteDashboard team! In light of that, we would like someone who knows how to put thoughts into words and is able to effectively get their message across to our customers through content as well as to other members of our team when working with them.
  • Willingness to learn and teach: Everyone is a work in progress, and we especially appreciate people who recognize that and are always striving to learn from the people around them. The InteDashboard team includes people with varying skills and backgrounds who are always excited to learn from and teach those around them.

Technical Skills / Experience:

  • English! Needless to say, you must be very fluent in English to write content in the English! We don’t need you to be a native speaker, but we do expect you to know the language well.
  • Academic writing experience: Our customers are professors who spend a lot of their team reading academic papers. If you have written or read academic reports before, you already understand the language of our customers!
  • Digital marketing experience is a plus: Blogging is not just about the writing! We are consistently trying to iterate our content strategy by understanding what content is getting the most views and clicks. We would also greatly value any experience you have had with SEO, content distribution, social media and using blogging softwares like Wix or WordPress.

Internship Duration

We are flexible on your start date but would prefer candidates who are able to start in September or earlier. We require you to commit a minimum of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months of your time, with the possibility of converting to a full-time employee!

Who you will be working with

You will be working with the customer facing team at InteDashboard. This includes:

Brian O’Dwyer (Founder and CEO): https://www.linkedin.com/in/brianodwyer/

Payal Lal (Customer Success Manager): https://www.linkedin.com/in/payal-lal-1a100457/

Testimonials from former interns:

In my time at CognaLearn as a founder’s analyst, I worked on several government grant applications and succeeded in getting grants worth $62,000 over 6 months with over $200K worth of grants still pending. It was extremely satisfying to be able to see the fruits of my work immediately given the fast-paced startup environment.

- Eden Heng (Founder’s Analyst)

Success here is defined within the framework of addressing the needs of the clients and caring for the people. Titles do not mean much in this culture where communication typically happens through conversations across desks rather than email or memos. The working environment is a friendly one and the company promotes teamwork, participation, and consensus.

- Philene (ISO Certification)

In my two months as a data science intern at CognaLearn, I created a predictive model using different regressions techniques that helps teachers predict which of their students might fail a course within three weeks of their class. I believe that this will become an important feature in the product going forward and will help teachers identify students that need help.
