- Job Description
About the Role
Hipster is looking for a UI/UX Design Intern to work on real digital products and client projects across mobile apps, web applications, dashboards, admin panels, kiosks, and enterprise systems.
This is a hands-on role. You will be involved in the actual UX and design process, including site visits, user research, competitor analysis, user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and interface design.
You will work closely with designers, project managers, developers, and clients to understand real user and business problems and help turn them into practical digital experiences.
What You’ll Do
Join on-site recce and client visits to understand the physical environment, users, workflows, and operational challenges.
Observe how users interact with existing services, applications, kiosks, or processes.
Document user pain points, observations, and potential UX improvements.
Conduct UX research and analysis using appropriate methods, tools, and platforms based on the project needs.
Use research platforms and tools you are familiar with to gather user insights, validate assumptions, and identify usability issues.
Conduct competitor and market analysis to understand how similar products solve user problems.
Support user interviews, surveys, usability testing, observations, and other research activities where relevant.
Translate research findings and requirements into user journeys, user flows, information architecture, and wireframes.
Design and improve interfaces for:
Mobile apps
Websites
Web applications
Dashboards
Admin panels
Kiosks and self-service interfaces
Create high-fidelity designs and interactive prototypes in Figma.
Support the creation and maintenance of design systems and reusable UI components.
Prepare design concepts and presentations for internal and client discussions.
Participate in design reviews and improve designs based on feedback.
Work with developers to understand implementation constraints and review the final UI.
What We’re Looking For
Currently studying or recently graduated in UI/UX Design, Product Design, Interaction Design, Digital Design, Communication Design, or a related field.
Basic understanding of UX research, user journeys, wireframing, and interface design.
Comfortable using Figma.
Familiar with some UX research methods or tools, such as:
User interviews
Surveys
Usability testing
User observation
Analytics
Heatmaps
Competitor benchmarking
Online research platforms
Able to choose an appropriate research approach depending on the problem being investigated.
Strong visual sense and attention to detail.
Able to analyse competitors and turn findings into practical design recommendations.
Comfortable visiting client sites around Singapore when required.
Able to communicate clearly in English.
Comfortable presenting and explaining design ideas.
Willing to receive feedback and iterate quickly.
Able to work independently after receiving direction.
Nice to Have
Portfolio containing mobile, web, or product design projects.
Experience with FigJam, Miro, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar tools.
Experience with usability testing or user research platforms.
Experience designing dashboards, admin systems, or complex workflows.
Basic understanding of HTML/CSS or how front-end development works.
Previous internship, freelance, school, or client project experience.
What You’ll Learn
You will gain practical exposure to the full product design process:
Site Research → User Research → Competitor Analysis → Requirements → UX → Wireframes → UI Design → Prototype → Client Feedback → Development → Product Review
You will work on real projects and real user problems, not just hypothetical design exercises.
Who Should Apply
This role is suitable for students or recent graduates who want practical experience in UI/UX, user research, and product design.
We value strong thinking, curiosity, initiative, and portfolio quality more than years of experience.
