Job Description

Role Overview

We are seeking a qualified and passionate Reading Specialist to join our team on a part-time contractor basis. The role will involve covering staff annual leave and teaching small groups or 1:1 sessions during weekday afternoons and possibly Saturdays. Weekly hours will vary depending on client enrolments. The position may also involve light administrative tasks related to session planning, student progress tracking, and stakeholder/client communication.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver evidence-based reading and literacy instruction to students (1:1 or small groups).

Follow and implement structured literacy programs, adapting instruction to meet individual student needs.

Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback to the team.

Ensure sessions are engaging, supportive, and aligned with best practice in literacy intervention.

Maintain professionalism and clear communication with staff, students, and parents.

Provide cover for colleagues during annual leave.

Carry out some administrative tasks (e.g., lesson notes, updating student records, preparing materials).

Requirements

Degree or postgraduate qualification in Education, Literacy, Special Education, or related field.

Training and experience in structured literacy, phonics, or dyslexia intervention (preferred).

Prior teaching or tutoring experience with children (primary or secondary).

Strong communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work independently while following established teaching frameworks.

Flexibility to provide cover when needed.

Contract Details

Contractor basis (hourly rate).

Part-time: 2–3 afternoons per week, possible Saturday (depending on client numbers), 3:30pm–6:30pm (subject to client numbers, times may change).

Additional hours during staff annual leave cover.

Some administrative duties included.
