Interns will expect to integrate photography, video, graphics, and interactive elements to create comprehensive, data-driven visual narratives for digital platforms.
Required Competencies:
Graphic design, data visualization, basic video editing, and web design fundamentals to synthesize complex information into clear, multi-format visual narratives.
An introduction to newsroom ops and workflow will be included.
Learning Outcomes:
(1) Data Visualization: Learning to translate complex datasets into accessible, engaging charts, maps, and infographics using industry-standard tools.
(2) Collaborating with data reporters, editors, and web developers on interactive and long-form digital projects.
(3) Multimedia Workflow: Gaining experience in integrating multiple visual formats (video clips, photos, graphics) seamlessly into a unified digital news package.
(4) Understanding how visual presentation and user experience (UX) directly impact reader engagement and time spent on digital articles.
