ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The International Services Department of the Singapore Red Cross leads the organisation’s overseas humanitarian work, coordinating disaster response, recovery, and resilience-building efforts in partnership with the global Red Cross Red Crescent Movement, and other humanitarian organisations.
The department mobilises financial assistance, relief supplies, technical expertise, and personnel to support communities affected by disasters and crises worldwide. Beyond emergency response, the department supports capacity-building of sister National Societies, and promotes regional cooperation. Through these efforts, the department advances Singapore Red Cross’ commitment to global solidarity and humanitarian service.
JOB PURPOSE
The intern will support the International Services (IS) Department in archiving and organising IS' past projects, to create a full picture narrative of IS' disaster response activities over the past years. The intern will have to work with country managers to profile past disasters and create an overarching narrative report which includes a timeline, projects completed, and deployments done. This narrative report will become an archive document for IS to refer to in the future.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Archiving & Documentation
- Review, sort, and catalogue historical project records, reports and any other relevant documents
- Support the digitisation and systematic organisation of archived materials
- Develop a clear filing structure to improve accessibility and retrieval of records
- Ensure documentation follows internal archiving and data protection guidelines
Knowledge Management
- Compile timelines and summaries of past overseas disaster response operations
- Assist in creating a consolidated project database or archive index
- Identify documentation gaps and support efforts to retrieve missing information
- Support the preparation of departmental reference materials or legacy reports
Research &Content Support
- Conduct desk research to contextualise past responses and humanitarian activities
- Assist in drafting internal briefs, historical summaries, or showcase materials
- Support the curation of content for presentations or communications purposes when necessary
Administrative Support
- Maintain organised tracking of archiving progress
- Assist with coordination between departments to retrieve materials
- Support other administrative tasks related to knowledge management projects
Any Other Duties
- Intern may be requested to support ongoing overseas disaster response activities happening during the period of internship.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Qualifications and Experiences
- Currently pursuing or recently completed studies in information management, history, international relations, social sciences, communications, or a related field
- Strong organisational and analytical skills
- Attention to detail and ability to manage large volumes of information
- Good written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office / Google Workspace; familiarity with digital archiving tools is an advantage
- Interest in humanitarian work and international affairs
- Ability to work independently and handle confidential materials responsibly
