Samaritans of Singapore (SOS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing confidential emotional support to individuals facing a crisis, thinking about or affected by suicide. Non-religious and not-for-profit, our work focuses on crisis intervention and suicide prevention.
Role Overview: We are seeking a Research Intern in the Innovation and Research department to support our research initiatives on suicide prevention, mental health, and crisis intervention. The intern will assist in data collection, analysis, and literature reviews to inform SOS’s programs and policies. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in social science research and contribute to meaningful work that impacts lives.

Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct literature reviews on topics related to suicide prevention, mental health, and crisis intervention
- Assist in designing research studies, including survey development and interview protocols
- Collect and analyse quantitative and qualitative data
- Prepare reports, presentations, and summaries of research findings
- Support the evaluation of SOS programs and services
- Contribute to ethical review board submissions
- Participate in team meetings and discussions on research findings and implications
- Assist in drafting internal documents, including SOPs, research proposals, applications, etc
- Organise and maintain departmental resources
- Coordinate internal stakeholder communications
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in psychology, public health, social work, sociology, or a related field. Candidates with a strong academic background in quantitative or qualitative research methods are preferred.
- Passionate about mental health advocacy and suicide prevention.
- Strong research skills, including experience with literature reviews, data collection, and statistical analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Sensitivity to issues related to mental health, suicide, and trauma, with a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in research.
