Job Description

POSITION: Boarding Officer/Ship Agent (Operations) 

LOCATION: SINGAPORE - Paya Lebar (Central) – Green & Yello Line MRT

The Boarding Officer/Ship Agent (Operations) is the first point of contact for vessels arriving into the port and processes all necessary formalities and declarations in a timely manner to ensure smooth entry and departure of ships assigned. Trainee ensures full compliance to statutory formalities and factual declarations. The Boarding Officer/Ship Agent (Operations) identifies bottlenecks to propose improvements to the organisation's workflow and assists with its subsequent implementation.

The Boarding Officer/Ship Agent (Operations) is expected to establish good relationships with the Ship Captain and Chief Engineer of the ship and is an organised person who is able to juggle the demands of paperwork and on-site work. You may be expected to work irregular hours to cater to the different arrival times of ships, and cope with unanticipated events and tight work schedules.

MAIN DUTIES: 

  • Acquire and allocate resources to support operations.
  • Attend at sites to monitor cargo loading and unloading operations.
  • Handle cargo documentations, invoices and inwards shipment.
  • Liaise with clients on status of cargo clearance.
  • Monitor vessel arrival and departure.
  • Optimise utilisation of resources.
  • Prepare quotations and proforma disbursements as required by clients, ship-owners and shipping lines.
  • Process all formalities and declarations in a timely manner to ensure smooth entry/departure of ships assigned.
  • Propose workflow improvements to improve efficiency.
  • Solve problems arising in the course of work.


REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Currently studying bachelor of Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related field (Only final year and semester).
  • Be fluent in English & Mandaring to communicate with China and other flag carrier ships and shipping crews.
  • Willing to take overt time / work in weekend and public holidays (OT will be compensated). 
  • Willing to travel to the Piers to board speed ferries.
  • Not afraid to climb up the ladder as required to meet the captain in the vessel.
