The British High Commission Singapore is looking for a culinary intern to join the existing hospitality team at The British High Commissioner’s Residence, Eden Hall.

Eden Hall is an historic building that serves as home to the High Commissioner and venue for dozens of official and corporate events every year, welcoming over 7000 guests annually. Events range from receptions, dinners and lunches to conferences, lectures and business presentations.  It also hosts senior British visitors to Singapore, including Ministers and members of the Royal Family.

The culinary intern will support the Residence Chef in showcasing modern British and British Asian fusion cuisine at high-level events and daily operations within the British High Commissioner’s Residence. The intern will assist with preparation, ingredients sourcing and kitchen organizing while learning innovative cooking techniques and culinary trends. This role provides hands-on experience in event catering and fine dining presentation in the context of a diplomatic hospitality. The intern will also get to work collaboratively with the professional residence team. It is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring chef to develop creativity and technical skills.

  • Assist in daily mise en place and meal preparation for the Residence
  • Support the chef in plating and serving during events
  • Learn and follow hygiene, food safety, and cleanliness standards in the kitchen
  • Aid with grocery inventory, deliveries, and proper storage
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen and food prep areas
  • Learn about the sourcing of local and international ingredients
  • Participate in kitchen planning for events, including special dietary requests
  • Shadow the chef to understand the nuances of residential and diplomatic hospitality
  • Other relevant duties as assigned by the Residence Chef
