About TLS Tutorials

At TLS Tutorials, we are not your typical tuition centre.

We are a small, growing team committed to delivering high-quality education and mentorship in Mathematics and Science. Through small-group tuition, personalised support, and thoughtfully designed learning experiences, we help students become more confident and independent learners.

We are looking for a hands-on and organised Student Experience Intern to help create a centre environment in which students can learn effectively and educators can focus on teaching.

Job Description

The Student Experience Intern supports the day-to-day student experience at TLS Tutorials.

This is an operationally focused role involving centre preparation, student support, inventory management, scheduling assistance, customer service, and coordination with educators. You will also support educators with the marking and organisation of students’ work using the answer keys, rubrics, and guidance provided.

Beyond completing daily tasks, you will be encouraged to observe how students and parents experience the centre, identify areas of friction, and help us design more thoughtful and reliable centre experiences.

This role is a subset of our broader Student Success function. It is best suited to someone who enjoys making things run smoothly behind the scenes while remaining warm and helpful when interacting with students and parents.

What You’ll Be Doing

Centre Operations and Lesson Readiness

  • Help prepare classrooms and shared spaces before lessons.

  • Ensure that learning materials, stationery, equipment, and student resources are ready for use.

  • Support lesson transitions and student movement during busy periods.

  • Help maintain an organised, welcoming, and student-friendly centre.

  • Conduct routine operational checks and flag missing items or potential disruptions early.

  • Support educators and the centre team with day-to-day logistical matters.

  • Assist with opening, closing, and centre-readiness routines where required.

  • Complete recurring operational checklists accurately and consistently.

Student Work and Marking Support

  • Support educators by marking selected student work using approved answer keys, marking schemes, or rubrics.

  • Organise completed worksheets, assignments, and corrections for educator review.

  • Record marks or completion information accurately in the relevant systems.

  • Flag unclear responses, unusual errors, or work requiring professional educator judgement.

  • Help prepare worksheets, corrections, revision packs, and other lesson materials.

  • Sort, file, and distribute student work accurately.

  • Maintain appropriate confidentiality when handling student results and academic records.

Final academic judgement and student feedback remain the responsibility of the educator.

Student Experience Design

  • Observe how students experience the centre from arrival to departure.

  • Identify small points of confusion, inconvenience, or friction in the student journey.

  • Gather informal feedback from students, parents, and educators.

  • Suggest practical improvements to centre routines, physical spaces, communication, and student touchpoints.

  • Help test and implement approved student-experience improvements.

  • Create simple signs, labels, guides, checklists, or materials that make the centre easier to navigate and use.

  • Support initiatives that make students feel welcomed, prepared, and motivated to learn.

  • Review whether implemented improvements are working as intended.

Inventory and Resource Management

  • Monitor stocks of stationery, worksheets, snacks, drinks, and other student-facing supplies.

  • Update inventory records and alert the team before supplies run low.

  • Receive, organise, label, and store supplies appropriately.

  • Help maintain orderly storage areas and resource stations.

  • Prepare materials and resources required for upcoming lessons or activities.

  • Support periodic inventory checks and stock reconciliation.

  • Reduce unnecessary wastage by tracking usage and maintaining sensible stock levels.

Customer Service and Front-of-House Support

  • Welcome students and parents warmly when they arrive at the centre.

  • Respond to straightforward questions accurately and professionally.

  • Direct more complex academic, enrolment, payment, or parent concerns to the appropriate team member.

  • Help communicate routine lesson information and operational updates.

  • Assist students who require help locating classrooms, materials, or educators.

  • Record parent requests and ensure that they are passed to the relevant person.

  • Maintain a calm and helpful presence during busy lesson periods.

  • Support a positive first impression for visiting and prospective families.

Scheduling and Administrative Support

  • Assist with lesson schedules, attendance records, classroom allocations, and make-up lesson coordination.

  • Help update schedule changes accurately across the relevant records and systems.

  • Verify information before sending routine confirmations or updates.

  • Flag potential scheduling or classroom conflicts early.

  • Support the coordination of trial lessons, assessments, and new-student arrangements.

  • Organise digital documents, student records, and operational information.

  • Track assigned follow-ups and complete them within the required timeframe.

  • Help maintain clear and reliable administrative systems.

What You’ll Learn

  • How the daily operations of a tuition centre are managed.

  • How scheduling, classroom readiness, and resource planning support effective teaching.

  • How to deliver thoughtful service to students and parents.

  • How educators assess and organise student work.

  • How inventory and operational systems are maintained.

  • How to identify and improve different parts of the student journey.

  • How a growing education business turns feedback into practical improvements.

  • How to work across education, customer service, administration, and operations.

Who We’re Looking For

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Organised and attentive to detail.

  • Responsible and dependable.

  • Warm, patient, and comfortable around students.

  • Willing to take initiative and complete practical tasks.

  • Able to follow established processes and instructions carefully.

  • Comfortable managing several small but important responsibilities.

  • Calm and helpful during busy periods.

  • Observant and interested in improving how things work.

  • Receptive to feedback and willing to learn.

  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team.

Preferred Background

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a diploma or degree.

  • Interest in education, business operations, hospitality, customer experience, or service design.

  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Workspace.

  • Comfortable working with spreadsheets, calendars, documents, and messaging platforms.

  • Experience working with children, students, customers, events, or administrative operations is advantageous but not required.

  • Familiarity with Mathematics or Science at the primary or secondary level is helpful for marking-support responsibilities.

You’ll Succeed in This Role If You

  • Notice what needs to be done without always waiting to be asked.

  • Complete routine work with care and consistency.

  • Keep materials, records, and physical spaces organised.

  • Treat students, parents, and educators respectfully.

  • Follow through on assigned responsibilities.

  • Ask for clarification rather than guessing when accuracy matters.

  • Can distinguish between tasks you may complete independently and matters that require educator or management judgement.

  • Enjoy improving small details that collectively create a better student experience.
