The Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) and the Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) are research institutes under the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). SIMTech focuses on developing advanced manufacturing technologies and building human capital to strengthen the competitiveness of Singapore’s manufacturing industry, working with partners across sectors such as precision engineering, medtech, aerospace, automotive, marine, oil & gas, electronics, and logistics. ARTC, jointly led with Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore), serves as a collaborative platform that brings together industry, academia, and public sector partners to accelerate the translation of research into industrial applications, with an emphasis on advanced manufacturing and remanufacturing processes.
Due to the organisational structure, the intern may be administratively under SIMTech or ARTC.
We are looking for highly motivated interns to help in furthering the cutting edge of metal additive manufacturing (AM). Positions are available on several types of work. Basic work involves supporting our staff on print-related tasks such as data preparation and printer operation. The more advanced internship work is geared towards automation, digital and data analytics aspects of AM. This involves multidisciplinary (mechatronics/mechanical/software/ML/AI) design work which is continuously carried out to streamline our department's R&D work, to increase the productivity of our metal 3D printing equipment, for the end goal of developing digital solutions around our core research theme.
Interns wishing to gain exposure to the entire scope of work of the department would need to have a background of mechanical, materials, software, system engineering, AI and machine learning skills. However, we are searching for interns who have competency in at least one of the above domains and have strong desires to either deepen those domains and/or extend his/her expertise into adjacent fields. Students currently specialising in one particular field may wish to use this internship as an opportunity to gain exposure to other branches of engineering.
Internship stipends are based on current education status, skillsets, and upon agreement. The stipend range shown here is for current UG ($1200-$1400) and Masters ($1400-$1600) students. For applications, please directly contact Tan Zheng Jie. (), Senior Scientist.
