Job Description

As part of the Regional Investment Team, you will report to the Regional Manager of Asia, Singapore Office, and will provide support to the Investment Officers (IOs). Your primary responsibilities will include assistance to Investment Officers in managing clients and loan portfolios, developing and maintaining relationships with MFIs and developing new business opportunities. You will provide required administrative and logistic support to the Investment Officers. In addition, you will also support BlueOrchard’s (BOF) operations and various internal and external reporting as needed.

Within a reasonable period of time, you are expected to learn and gain general understanding of BOF’s business model and business processes and acquire knowledge on appropriate application of BlueOrchard’s methodology. You will perform research and assist colleagues with risk analysis and reporting (ie. reports on microfinance markets, country risks and other standard and custom reports).

You will gain a good understanding of BOF’s clients and financial markets in the Region and will apply such knowledge and professional skills to effectively support Investment Officers in serving clients and meeting business objectives in the Region. 

Tasks and Responsibilities

§ Assist IOs in communication with the financial institutions (FIs), BOF’s Offices worldwide and third parties

§ Collect, sort, analyze and file FIs’ documentation, including but not limited to operational, financial and social information;

§ Support IOs in preparation of client updates for various committees 

§ Perform administrative and other tasks as assigned by supervisors and related to preparing loan documentation, negotiating and closing the investment deals, disbursement of investment proceeds and follow-up on investment transactions;

§ Support IOs in monitoring performance of FI clients and assist in monthly, quarterly, semiannual and annual analytical reviews, credit risk assessment of the outstanding loans to the FIs and follow-up with the clients as prescribed by BOF’s credit procedures and as required by supervisors;

§ Perform research on and monitoring of microfinance markets, as well as other research as required and collect and report relevant information to supervisors.

§ Carry out desk research and assist IOs to prepare reports on country risk, including, but not limited to macroeconomic, political, legal, regulatory, market and other risks.

§ Assist with reporting tasks, as required.

§ Assist Investment Officers in the production and maintenance internal reporting tools.

§ Cultivate strong, long-term relationships with key decision-makers within accounts and develop deep knowledge of the account organizations;

§ Identify and respond to client needs in order to define potential opportunities. Ensure appropriate strategy and solution is proposed to the client;

§ Maintain high visibility within client organizations.

Required skills and Knowledge

§ Final year of undergraduate studies or graduate student in finance, business administration, economics, or related field;

§ Proven interest in impact investing, double bottom line returns and microfinance in emerging markets, developing economies and in markets in transition.

§ Advance knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required; 

§ Good communication and presentation skills, both – verbal and written, and ability to inform and persuade verbally and in writing;

§ Advanced personal organization and planning skills and ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously;

§ Result-driven, able to work in a fast paced environment, flexible with “hands-on” approach and willingness to perform both – technical and administrative tasks;

§ Excellent written and spoken English skills.
